Mountainside Gardens gears up for another growing season

Serving the community of Golden, B.C., for 12 years, Mountainside Gardens is open for another season.

Serving the community of Golden, B.C., for 12 years, Mountainside Gardens is open for another season.

Pam Tetrault who co-owns the business with her partner Tyler Tetrault, says owning a garden centre is “a good business to be in.”

“Customers are always happy. The greenhouse always puts a smile on their faces,” she explains.

The family-run business offers edible plants as well as flowers and serves many businesses in town with hanging baskets.

“It’s nice knowing the edible products we sell are helping people to eat well, nourish their families, which is better all around. Grow and eat, not using pesticides, or transportation, it’s better for so many reasons,” Tetrault says.

Mountainside Gardens offers annual events during Easter and Mother’s Day.

Its first event, being held on Easter Sunday, April 1, from 1 to 2 p.m., will bring families together to plant seeds, find flowers and celebrate the beginning of spring.

The Mother’s Day event will be held on May 13 in the gardens from 2 until 4 p.m.

Guests can expect snacks, refreshments, and live music during that event.

While the Easter event marks the start of another growing season, Tetrault explains, planting and preparations begin in January and transplanting begins in spring.

“We’re open a good portion of the year and are here as a resource for the whole season,” she says, reminding customers they are not just open during the spring and summer months; they provide bulbs for planting in the spring and fall as well as lawn fertilizer, topdressing and pots for indoor and outdoor plants, and can bring special items in as requested.

“We shift and change things based on customers needs and are open to new ideas,” she explains, which is a policy adopted by the family that has helped them grow over the years.

Tetrault says she and Tyler have grown their business slowly over the years and have made subtle changes along the way, something she attributes to the success of the business in addition to offering good quality products at good prices.

“We’re dialed in for the Golden market,” she says. “People know they can depend on us.”

Mountainside Gardens is located at 777 Barber Road. They are open for business, and Tyler is available for assistance at 250-439-8036. Business hours will expand to 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. starting April 1.
