Nanaimo companies sweep up in commercial building awards

The Nanaimo Golf Course took top prize in the Vancouver Island Commercial Building Awards this April.

The Nanaimo Golf Course  scored top honours at this year’s Vancouver Island Commercial Building Awards.

Nanaimo hosted the seventh annual Vancouver Island Real Estate Board’s commercial building awards on April 24, which celebrates the best commercial and industrial construction north of the Malahat.

Companies in the Harbour City swept up awards in all categories.

The Nanaimo Golf Club took home the highest award —Judges Choice, best overall winner and an award of excellence—for its new  23,000-square foot clubhouse.

Nanaimo Youth Services Association won an award of excellence for the Rowe House, an affordable housing project for employed youth. Other excellence winners include: multi-family apartment complex Madrona Green, the Nanoose Bay Fire Hall, Port Place Shopping Centre, the new Mercedes-Benz dealership, Great-West Student Residences and Archie Johnstone Plumbing & Heating. Gabriola Island Fire Hall won the B.C. Hydro Green Award of excellence.

Awards of merit and honorable mentions went to: Heritage Views town homes, Gabriola Island Fire Hall, Pacific Station of Nanaimo, Laid Wheaton GM, the office of Hazelwood Construction, Estevan Professional Centre, The Ridge multi-family townhouse, Edgewood, Gregg Distributors Warehouse and MidIsland Tools Exterior Renovation.

There were 49 nominations this year evaluated by a panel of seven judges.
