Two local pharmacists won the Canadian Pharmacists Association’s (CPA) Patient Care Achievement Award for Health Promotion.
Tracie Der and Darcy O’Toole were honoured at the CPA awards in Whistler on June 2 for their commitment to promoting health and wellness, disease prevention and chronic disease management with a wide variety of methods.
“Part of what makes us effective in reaching our patients is that we try to concentrate on the whole patient, to enhance their general well-being and health,” they said in a news release.
The award recognizes a pharmacist who has demonstrated excellence in the ongoing education of patients on wellness, the encouragement of a healthier lifestyle and disease prevention and management.
“CPhA is immensely proud of these exemplary pharmacists and the difference they are making to their patients, their communities and to the profession,” said CPA president Jody Shkrobot. “I’d like to offer my personal thanks and congratulations to our winners for the leadership, compassion and dedication that they show every day.”
The independent pharmacists opened the Nanoose Medicine Centre Pharmacy at the Red Gap Centre in May 2006 and develop many new ideas that will help their patients such as leading group walks to promote physical activity and creating the Breathing Matters Program for the Medicine Centre pharmacies.
“It is a never-ending source of pleasure to be able to work with each other and with people who are like-minded who also want to provide the best possible care and education for our patients and our communities,” they said.
