A new gallery has opened downtown Fernie, showcasing the work of Fernie artists Tara Higgins and Kerri Holmes.
“It’s pretty exciting,” said Higgins. “I’ve been looking for a long time for something close to downtown.”
Located at 762 3rd Avenue, behind Barkside Pets, the gallery displays the paintings of Higgins and the pottery of Holmes.
Before this, Higgins had her paintings on display at Polar Peak Books, as well as in Calgary, Invermere and Vancouver.
For 16 years, Higgins has been displaying her work around Canada.
As time goes on she will be encouraging guest artists and artisans to come from out of town, display their work and performs demos and workshops.
For now, the gallery consists of the work of Higgins and Holmes.
“I wanted to have at least one other artist or artisan showcase their work so it wasn’t just the ‘Tara show’,” laughed Higgins.
She liked the pairing of paintings and pottery, so she said collaborating with Holmes was an easy choice.
“I’ve admired Kerri’s work for a long time and wanted to try and give her the opportunity to get her work out there,” she said.
Stop by the gallery, open Thursday-Saturday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday noon -4 p.m. Follow the gallery on Instagram @taratheartist.
