A new graphic design company in Keremeos is helping local businesses address the often expensive issue of creating new marketing material for products and services that frequently change.
Keremeos resident Rona Clancy-Brewin created her business, When Pixels Fly, after years of experience as a graphic designer. She said the company, which recently launched, creates professional material that is editable so business owners can easily create their well-branded content, saving time and money.

“What we do is create beautifully designed marketing material but what we also do is turn it into a template which is like an editable PDF,” Clancy-Brewin explained.
“So business owners can take it and empty the fields, then repopulate the fields so they don’t need to go to a designer each time. This process saves them time and money and gives them some control.”
For example, the businesses with the type of products she designs material for would be wineries that often run out of a best-selling wine and then need to change their tasting menus. Companies spend a lot of money on the marketing material, she said, and once the wine sells out, they have to either make a new design themselves or pay again for a different design.
Brewin, a first-time entrepreneur who is running the business with her husband, photographer Dave Brewin, said she got the idea from a long career in graphic design in the wine industry.

“I was constantly creating new material and then I started wondering, ‘What will they do when I leave?’ I’ve got all these files that are meant for professional design programs. Then I got to thinking, ‘I could put it into a user-friendly reusable format.'”
The editable designs provide clients with consistency in all their marketing material, she added.
“I interviewed a lot of wineries and I could see a common issue was either they just didn’t have time to hire a designer or they just didn’t even know where to start.
“A lot of them are just trying to do it themselves or there are those who are constantly opening up their cheque book to pay a designer to change their marketing material throughout the year. So this is where I got the idea of where needs weren’t being met.”
So far, her clients, which include Tickleberry’s in Okanagan Falls, Corcelettes Estate Winery and Seven Stones Estate Winery, have said her business is exactly what is needed in the valley right now.
