The Surrey RCMP recently welcomed Supt. Marc Landry to Surrey detachment as the new operations officer. Landry is responsible for oversight of all of Surrey detachment’s operations, including General Duty, Cell Block, Operational Communication Centre and Operations Review Unit.

Born and raised in Montreal, Landry spent six years with the Canadian Forces prior to joining the RCMP. Four of those years were spent overseas stationed in Lahr, Germany where he served with the Royal 22ième Régiment, an infantry battalion.

“Policing was always an area that interested me growing up and I was happy to make the transition from the military to policing. What attracted me most to policing was the opportunity to serve the public and make those responsible for victimizing others accountable for their actions,” says Landry.

In his 28 years of service with the RCMP, Landry has served on both Canadian coastlines in 11 different detachments across British Columbia and New Brunswick. All of his service has been in operational policing, where he has worked as a team member and supervisor in General Duty, General Investigation Section, Drug Section, and Special Projects.

During the course of his career he has been a detachment commander at a number of smaller detachments in British Columbia and a district commander in New Brunswick. His most recent post, however, was here in British Columbia as an operational support officer for the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, where he was responsible for the Uniform Enforcement Teams, Surveillance Teams and Covert Asset Support Team.

“Surrey has a long tradition for being progressive and taking innovative approaches to policing and this was certainly a draw for me in coming here,” says Landry. “I look forward to helping to build a stronger Surrey detachment and addressing the public safety concerns of this great community with the women and men of Surrey detachment.”
