New owners for Chill

Chill Soda Shop has been sold, and the new owners are brimming with plans for the store.

Heather Bowles has purchased the business with her mother, Sharon McGregor, who will be moving to Terrace from Manitoba to help her daughter manage the business. And Bowles says it will be a family affair as her daughter, Julia, is  also on board in what she is calling a multi-generational family team.

“I am super excited,” Bowles said, explaining she has been trying to persuade her mother to move out west for a few years now.

The biggest change for Chills Soda Shop will be the winter hours.  The shop, which is located in city-owned property on Millennium Trail, has in the past only been open for summer hours, with its main sales generated by ice cream.

Bowles is planning to open the store year-round starting Oct. 31, and offer tea, coffee and scones throughout the colder months.

She says the shop is already a successful business with a steady stream of people, and  hopes to add that with the new winter offerings, something she  thinks will be popular with people who are using the Millennium Trail.

“A lot of people are coming and going on that trail,” she explained.

The shop will also start selling old fashioned candy and cotton candy, along with bulk tea and coffee from B.C. based businesses.

The new shop will be open for a Halloween grand opening on Oct. 31, and Bowles will be handing out orange cotton candy to introduce customers to the new store.
