Oceanside Tourism celebrated 2011’s achievements at its annual general meeting at Tigh-Na-Mara Resort on March 29.
“Although local businesses have experienced different degrees of success or decline over the last three years, as a community, our overall tourism revenues have climbed year over year,” said Paul Drummond, Tigh-Na-Mara’s general manager and Oceanside Tourism’s past-chair.
Reports circulated at the AGM indicated that 2011 was the sixth straight year that accommodation revenue in the area grew — up 2.5 per cent from 2010. Tourism was estimated to be worth $109 million in direct spending to the Parksville and Qualicum Beach region in 2011.
Oceanside Tourism’s new chair is Robynne Shaw, general manager of Sunrise Ridge Resort.
She is joined on the new executive team by Eileen Doyle of the Shorewater Resort, Sandy Herle of Close to You and Richard Varela of Horne Lake Caves.
Shawna Broekhuizen of The Beach Club Resort is vice-chair, and Geoff Ball of Milner Gardens is Treasurer. Drummond will continue on as past-chair.
