July is shaping up to be an interesting month, and with all the recent forest fires on the mainland and up Island, everyone is reminded about the burn ban for the West Shore and to refrain from throwing lit wcigarettes out of your car. The simplest of acts can cause brush fires that can burn for days.
Coming up on Friday (July 17), the Westshore Quay Classic golf tournament takes place at Olympic View Golf Course. Tee-offs start at 11:30 a.m. and the event concludes with a banquet dinner, awards presentations and a casino night. Contact the West Shore Chamber of Commerce for more info at 250-478-1130.
Also this Friday is the Metchosin Bandwagon music night, featuring the Lebeau-Petersen Band at the Metchosin Golf Course. Kitchen and bar service opens at 5:30 p.m., with music from 7 to 9. A reminder that the Rock the Shores music festival happens this weekend, so expect heavy traffic along Island Highway.
Music in the Park is in full swing at Veterans Memorial Park in Langford every Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m., with a different band each week performing for your entertainment. This weekend’s free concert (July 19) features Backbeat, so come along and enjoy the music.
The Stinking Fish Studio Tour is coming up July 23 to 27, with home studios open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Brochures with maps for the arts tour are available at many locations around the West Shore and Victoria, with maps also online at stinkingfishstudiotour.com.
The Westshore Chamber will host their monthly mixer on Thursday, July 23, an event that will be jointly hosted and sponsored by the Westin Bear Mountain Resort and Spa, and Tourism Victoria. Join them at The Westin from 5 to 7 p.m.
On July 25 homeowners throughout the Westhills neighbourhood in Langford will stage a community garage sale. Things get started at 8 a.m. for the early birds and go until 1 p.m. This is one you don’t want to miss.
