OUT AND ABOUT: Plenty of ways to share that special day

Food, gift options for Valentine’s abound on West Shore

With Valentine’s Day almost upon us, now is a good time to start thinking about your Valentine’s plans.

On the West Shore, we have a wide variety of fabulous restaurants to choose from for that special romantic dinner. If you would like to try something a little different from a cuisine standpoint, we have Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants all along the Goldstream Avenue strip.

Sabhai Thai (2800 Jacklin Rd.) is offering their standard menu, but will feature drink, appy and dinner specials. They will also have special seating and a number of different times for dinner, so be sure to call and book ahead.

The Green Leaf Bistro (832 Goldstream Ave.) offers the finest in Vietnamese cuisine. May Gold Village (701 Goldstream Ave.) is an old favourite in Langford; if you’ve never stopped in, they offer a great buffet along with menu items. For lovers of sushi, we have Akemi Sushi (737 Goldstream Ave., beside Darcy’s Pub), Zin Sushi (766 Goldstream Ave. near Western Foods) and many more to choose from.

For a special treat up at Olympic View Golf Course, Foresters Bistro and Bar is offering a great value for couples, and with champagne cocktails, this will please Cupid.

Our two destination hotels, Four Seasons By Sheraton Victoria Gateway and the Westin Bear Mountain Resort, are offering fantastic room and dinner specials. Be sure to check them out online.

For some of us, spending Valentine’s Day at home with a lovely bottle of wine or bubbly and a home-cooked gourmet meal can be just as romantic.

Check out Liquor Planet (2317 Millstream Rd.) and Cascadia (107-977 Langford Pkwy.) for advice on the best bottle for you and your sweetheart. Not only do they each have some super specials, their wine and beer consultants help make your choice easier for creating a romantic evening.

Looking for the perfect outfit? Stop by Baja Rosi’s (797 Goldstream Ave.), where for the month of February you can purchase any regular priced item for 25 per cent off. At Avenue Boutique (725 Goldstream Ave.), Chela has some great new items in for the new season; it feels good to support local business.

Browns Social House (783 Goldstream Ave.) is hosting February’s monthly Westshore Chamber of Commerce mixer tonight (Feb. 11, 5 to 7 p.m.).

This is a great opportunity to mix and mingle with fellow business people from the West Shore. Admission is free for members and guests can attend for $15.

Mike Hartshorne, an award-winning Realtor with DFH Real Estate in Langford, has been appointed to the inaugural Island Savings Credit Union regional council. Mike is an ongoing sponsor of community programming that supports health care, training and recreation.

A Mobile Blood Donor Clinic will be held Feb. 11 and 12 from 1 to 6 p.m at Church of the Advent on Mount View Avenue just off Sooke Road. It takes approximately one hour; book your appointments at blood.ca/en/DonateNow.
