Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation has $100,000 more funding for programs offered by Fraser Health at the Centre for Active Living, thanks to a contribution by Scotiabank. “This represents a significant investment in the health and wellness of our community,” foundation board chair Jane Manning said at a March 15 cheque presentation.
“We are proud to invest in programs and organizations that have a meaningful impact in our communities,” said Wendy Stasiuk, manager of the Scotiabank White Rock branch.
“We know the unique education programs offered at the Centre for Active Living by will go a long way to improve the lives of individuals and families served by Peace Arch Hospital.”
The $6.5-million, 18,000-square-foot Centre for Active Living, located at Centennial Park in White Rock, opened in June 2011.
The multi-purpose facility offers, among other things, professionally supervised fitness and lifestyle programs run by Fraser Health designed to transition seamlessly into community-run fitness programs.
The programs focus primarily on individuals with cardiac disease, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
The Foundation launched the Partners in Caring Campaign in 2007.
So far, four projects have been completed including providing more acute care space, funding an MRI, a new maternity unit and the Centre for Active Living.
The Centre for Active Living is the result of a partnership between the City of White Rock, Fraser Health, Government of British Columbia, Government of Canada, Peace Arch Curling Centre, Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation and White Rock South Surrey Community Foundation.
