Parksville hiring fair is back

Local businesses are hiring and the Career Centre is organizing a Spring Hiring Fair May 2 from noon at the Parksville Community Centre.

Local businesses are hiring and the Career Centre is organizing a Spring Hiring Fair on Thursday, May 2 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Parksville Community and Conference Centre.

The Career Centre has not hosted a hiring fair since the Fall of 2008.

“Employers are telling us that there is a need for a hiring fair again in our community,” said Cyndy Ireland Bresden, executive director of the Career Centre. “We have employers already registered from a variety of industries including hospitality, IT, trades and more.”

Current registered employers include The Beach Club Resort, Black Diamond Mechanical, Blue Coast Research Ltd., Fairwinds, Hosting Nation, Nurse Next Door, Quality Foods, RCMP, Sun Life Financial, Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort, Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort, Wood Winds Community Support Society and the Skilled Trades Employment Program. Community partners such as Community Futures Alberni-Clayoquot, Oceanside Volunteer Association and Venture Connect will also be attending.

Other Work B.C. Employment Centres in the mid-Island region are responding to employer’s hiring needs and are also hosting hiring fairs. In April there are hiring fairs being held in Duncan, Nanaimo and Port Alberni.

It is free for employers to participate and with their registration they will receive advance time for set-up, an eight-foot skirted table with two chairs, internet connectivity, extensive advertising and light refreshments. Interested employers can complete the online registration form on The Career Centre’s website www.careercentre.org.  Register by April 18.
