Plenty of opportunities to mingle with other businesses

Happy New Year! It seems like yesterday we were all prepping for the holiday season and boom, just like that we are back to work. As my family in Scotland says “Back to old clothes and porridge…”

There will be a free information session for Gaia College’s organic master gardener course on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 6:30 p.m. at Royal Roads University, 2005 Sooke Rd.

Royal Roads University and Gaia College are once again offering cutting edge, scientifically based organic gardening courses this winter and spring.

The free public information session offers budding green thumbs a chance to discover the new, planet-friendly growing trend. For more info go to gaiacollege.ca.

The West Shore Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Brain Food Lunch and Learn with an interactive marketing panel on Jan. 17 from noon until 1:45 p.m. at Coastal Offices on Wale Road. For more info please contact the West Shore Chamber at 250-478-1130.

The Chamber is also hosting their monthly mixer on Thursday, Jan. 19 at The Q Centre. This will be a joint mixer with The YES Group and the Victoria Grizzlies, running from 4:30 until 7 p.m. Drop by for the opportunity to mix, mingle and enjoy a drink and amazing food with great conversation and stick around for the hockey game after.

Also on Jan. 17 from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Songhees Wellness Centre, 1100 Admirals Rd., the First Nations Health Authority Wellness Challenge 2017 will be taking place.There will be Lekwungen Dancers, the Beecher Bay Youth Drum Group and many more great talents. Healthy diabetic snacks and smoothies will be served and there will be free t-shirts and other prizes to be won.

The West Shore Chamber’s Coffee Talk will take place on Jan. 24 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and will be hosted by Raymond James at 211-963 Langford Pkwy.

The Island Illustrators Society celebrates Canada with an exhibition showcasing Canada through vintage style travel posters at the Coast Collective Art Centre, 318 Wale Rd. Through these images, you are invited to take a journey across Canada, visiting the 10 provinces and three territories.

Witness the giant natural and man-made icons for which Canada is famous. The travelling exhibition will be on display until Jan. 29, so be sure to drop by and check it out before it is gone.
