Project aims to build a community one hammer at a time

Home Depot shoppers can help their communities one hammer at a time with the launch of the seventh annual Buy A Hammer, Build Our Community Campaign.

Customers at the Langley, Surrey and Coquitlam Home Depot stores can donate $2 to purchase paper hammers with the proceeds supporting Tri-City Transitions Society, an organization which provides help and hope to women and families who have been impacted by violence and abuse.

Housing is a basic human necessity yet there are many young people who do not have access to safe, stable and affordable housing, that’s why the Home Depot Canada Foundation is committed to supporting the housing needs of Canada’s youth. Running until July 3, all proceeds raised through the campaign will benefit local housing charities, including many that provide housing support to youth-in-need.

“The Foundation believes safe, stable, affordable housing matters,” said Peg Hunter, chair of the Home Depot Canada Foundation. “

Working together and supporting affordable housing, we can help build brighter futures and stronger communities for everyone.”

The Tri-City Transitions offers counselling and groups for women who have experienced sexual assault, relationship or childhood abuse.

The Buy a Hammer, Build Our Community campaign has helped more than 250 local charitable organizations and more than 1,250,000 paper hammers have been sold across the country with all of the proceeds staying within the community.

The Home Depot Foundation has invested more than $10 million in the development of affordable housing and community involvement projects across the country.
