The Royal Bank of Canada continues to do its part for improved health care on central Vancouver Island with a $50,000 donation to the emergency department expansion at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

The gift goes toward the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation’s effort to raise $4 million for the purchase of essential equipment for the ER expansion.

Mark Lovick, RBC regional vice-president, said the cause is important to the financial institution.

“RBC is part of the community and the emergency department affects all sectors of our community – it has the biggest impact,” he said. “This donation is for all of our customers, and all of our future customers.”

The banking institution also shows its community dedication through the Employee Volunteer Grants where employees who volunteer for a not-for-profit organization can earn grants for their charity of choice in lieu of service.

Brenda Rositano of the hospital foundation said RBC has continually shown its commitment to its customers and to Island communities.

“They have given more than $230,000 to the foundation for the purchase of medical equipment since 1990,” she said. “This means they understand the human aspect of providing health care for each of us, but also the economic impact.”
