Red Door Studio adds artisan touch

Red Door Studio & Artisan Market promotes local crafters.

The Red Door Studio & Artisan Market is hoping to become a one-stop beauty shop on Vernon’s 30th Avenue.

A collaboration between beautician Lindsay James and esthetician Caldeeda Ross, Red Door is a full-service salon and spa, with the added bonus of beauty products and crafts created by local talent.

The duo held an open house late last month, and opened its trademark red door for business Nov. 1.

“Things are going really good,” said James, formerly of Evolve Studio. “I am stoked about it.”

In addition to traditional salon and spa services – haircuts, eye lash extensions, waxing, manicures, pedicures, facials and massage – James has set up a series of shelves in her 800 square-foot shop where local companies can offer their wares. Product lines include beauty and skin, hair accessories, toques, bags, scarves, jewelry, pillows, artisan cards, magnets, soap nuts and fashion.

There are already 20 vendors, with five more on the way, and James anticipates being at capacity by January.

“I just want it to be somewhat complementary (to the salon),” said James, of her criteria for the market products.

Asked about the idea behind the market, she said: “A good friend of mine (Heidi Jordan) owns the Wild Oak Cafe in Armstrong. She just really inspired me to support local.

“I love the farmers’ market and all the amazing crafts that people make.”
