Ridge chamber president steps away early

Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Chamber of Commerce is working well enough they don’t need the president to serve out a second complete term.

Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Chamber of Commerce is working well enough they don’t need the president to serve out a second complete term.

So Jeremy Bekar has resigned, effective this month.

“It’s a positive and it means they’re doing a great job,” and don’t need him around anymore, Bekar said Thursday of the board of directors.

Bekar was president in 2010, during the chamber’s 100th year, and stayed on this year to help out following the resignation of Dean Barbour as chamber executive- director.

Then in the past several months, three others on the executive stepped down for a variety of reasons.

“I think [executive director] Jesse [Sidhu] and the board are doing an exceptional job,” said Bekar.

“The board [of directors] we have is absolutely spectacular.”

Two lawyers, a notary public, two finance people and two directors with marketing experience are among the directors.

Taking over the reins as interim president will be Ken Holland, who will then become president for 2012 at the meeting in December.

Bekar said the chamber is one of the largest in the area with just more than 500 members.
