I am very excited to share my passion for design with Saanich News readers. I have worked with colour for 23 years as an interior designer, and am of strong belief that colour and combinations of colour have an interaction with humans on all levels. It affects us psychologically and physiologically – imagine our world in black and white. So I have taken 10 basic colours, broken them down into six sub-colours and will write each article on a new sub-colour as I locate it in our beautiful municipality.
In May we will begin with the sub-colour of pear – a tone of green, in celebration of spring. Pear is a warm, yellow-based green, which is, of course, associated with the fruit. It is typically a darker yellow shaded green, slightly greyed out and not bright. I personally favour the colour pear and love to see it mixed with teal, black, red or chocolate browns.
On a visit to Mattick’s Farm in Cordova Bay, I was able to locate the pear bin at The Red Barn and then find these fun coffee mugs at The Ladybug Boutique. I love how the pear is used for a backdrop to highlight the red and cream owls. Lovely palette to enjoy a hot drink.
