Call it a win for the home team.

The small batch Glen Saanich whisky by de Vine Vineyards and Distillery received a silver medal for its Glen Saanich Single Malt at last week’s Canadian Whisky Awards held in the Hotel Grand Pacific (in conjunction with the Victoria Whisky Festival).

Made on the border of Saanich and Central Saanich on Old West Saanich Road, the 2017 release of Glen Saanich was already sold out before it debuted into the hierarchy of Canadian whiskies.

“B.C.’s micro-distilling industry is newer than in other parts of the country and I’m so excited to see them starting to come into their own,” said Davin de Kergommeaux, chairman of the judges. “[B.C.] is a region to watch and I expect we will see B.C. continue to earn accolades.”

Masterson’s 10 Year Old Rye earned Canadian Whisky of the Year, a first for Masterson’s.
