Activity is picking up in Stewart with tradespeople streaming to the community to take part in the multiple projects happening in the area.
A 135-man camp is being set up in the middle of Stewart to accommodate employees working on the Long Lake hydro project, and other camps will be set up in the area for mining projects.
Stewart Mayor Angela Brand Danuser said vacancy rate is low, and there have been two housing starts and one industrial warehouse being built, which hasn’t happened in the community for a while.
With employees moving in to work on exploration projects and tourists visiting during the summer season, Brand Danuser said the small population of Stewart, normally 498, could almost double.
