Small business key to employment

small business provides more employment more disabled people

The unemployment rate for people with disabilities is significantly higher than the Canadian average at 8.6 per cent versus 6.3 per cent.

The Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program has an antidote to this problem, and its members are eager to spread the word during Small Business Week.

The Just Watch Me video contest kicked off a few weeks ago, and eligible entrepreneurs have until Oct. 31 to submit an entry to win the $1,000 prize for the favourite video.

All entries can be viewed on the contest site (communityfuturespanwest.ca/contest/) and people can vote on their favourite Nov. 7-26 – after the judges’ panel has selected the top 5 list.

The winner of the Just Watch Me contest will be announced on Dec. 2 in recognition of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Dec. 3).

British Columbians can get more information by contacting Garry Angus at 604-685-2332 ext 226 or e-mailing edp@communityfutures.ca.
