Small Business Week: Business tip – communication is key

Business tips from Community Futures Okanagan Similkameen.

According to Huffington Post the six Hot Topics and Core Issues that businesses need to pay attention to in 2016 are:

•Employee Engagement

•Leadership versus management

•Inclusivity

•Embracing change and adapting

effectively

•Transparency and governance

•Intergration of Millennials

You need to communicate with your staff.  Get to know them, and appreciate them in order to build trust. At the Business Solutions Forum held last spring in Penticton, business leaders talked about how they retained and motivated employees by treating them like family.   Leaders focus on people, they engage their team to get results. And because we live in a multi-cultural country, your business needs to be as diverse as the market it serves. Technology will be sure to create a “constant need to change” it will be survival of the fittest.

Embracing change early will keep you ahead of the competition. And the millennials, well they’re already ahead of the curve. Those 20 somethings are now 30 somethings.  They grew up at the start of the social media age, some might say they shaped the way we use it today.  They are innovators and they expect to be in a leadership role, but most of all, they only know change.  And lucky for your business that The Get Youth Working program has a $2,800 hiring subsidy for youth.

There is no question that people are the key to your success in business. Whether they are employees or customers what ties the six Hot Topics together is communication. It is the essence of management and it shapes the leader.
