Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce spreading Christmas cheer

Chamber to host community Christmas party on Dec. 3

Put your Christmas spirit on and get ready to mingle at Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce’s first-ever Christmas party.

The party, which takes place Dec. 3 at the Sooke Royal Canadian Legion, is the idea of chamber president Kerry Cavers, who seeks to bring Sooke’s business community together under one roof.

It’s not a new idea, but it’s new for Sooke.

“It can be tough at Christmas time to afford to take your employees out, even if you want to celebrate them at Christmas, and if it’s just you and another employee, you don’t necessarily get the opportunity for a big Christmas party,” Cavers said.

Attendees will feast on a traditional turkey dinner, mingle with other Sooke business owners, even join them on the dance floor.

“We chose the legion because we want to try to support as many of our members as we can throughout the year and do lots of events at other locations, but we really felt the legion was a good fit and reflective of the overall feel of Sooke,” Cavers said.

Cavers wants to celebrate, as a chamber and community, and invite everyone to come together and get to know one another.

“There’s the ultraistic goal of bringing businesses together, when people have fun, you get to know each other, so there’s more collaborations that happen as a result.”

Cavers hopes the event will become an annual fundraiser for the chamber to help bolster its finances.

The chamber will also collect food donations for the Sooke Food Bank. Door prizes are also up for grabs.

The party starts on Saturday (Dec. 3) at the Sooke Royal Canadian Legion at 6 p.m., tickets are $25 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members.
