South Cariboo rep’s salute Obama’s leadership

South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce president Tom Bachynski hopes Republicans and Democrats will work on U.S. economy

South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce president Tom Bachynski says the re-election of United States President Barack Obama is “a good sign of pure, western democracy” at work.

“The race was close and the dollars spent on this election made an economy of its own.”

Obama beat out Republican Mitt Romney, in the Nov. 6 election.

Now that the election is behind them, Bachynski adds he hopes both parties will take a short time to “rest and heal.”

“It’s so important for the global economy that the Republicans and Democrats fuse a common goal and get the U.S. economy as the number 1 task for both parties. Tolerance and acceptance is the only way the enormous task of bringing back the U.S. economy and both parties need to participate.”

He notes a vibrant American economy spills over the border for Canadians to enjoy similar successes.

Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Cathy McLeod also offers her congratulations to President Obama.

It is “absolutely important” for Canada to maintain a good, strong working relationship with the Americans choice for president, she explains, as the leader of this country’s “strongest and closest neighbour, ally, and trading partner.”

“We’ve accomplished many things in partnership with President Obama.”

The Canada-U.S. Perimeter Security Agreement is one example of “important measures” the neighbouring governments are moving forward with, McLeod adds.
