A South Surrey pub forced by fire to close last spring will mark its grand re-opening on Monday (Oct. 3).
Renovations to Sawbucks Neighbourhood Pub have been underway since shortly after the April 25 blaze, which started in the kitchen and caused extensive smoke and water damage.
Firefighters were alerted to the trouble at 1626 152 St. at approximately 2:45 a.m. that morning by mall security staff at Semiahmoo Shopping Centre. It was later described by Surrey fire officials as “a small fire” that crews extinguished within 10 minutes.
Pub owner Rod Egerton, South Surrey resident, told Peace Arch News in July that the fire was deemed accidental, and that damage was estimated at $1 million.
Everything inside was to be redone, from the floors to the ceiling to all-new mahogany finishing. New additions to the decor include pairs of carved seahorses and flamingos.
Re-opening parties are planned for next weekend, with Almost Famous Karaoke on Oct. 7 and the March Hare Band on Oct. 8.
