Students receive scholarships for trades

Two students from Caledonia Senior Secondary School have each received cheques for $1,000 to assist them in their apprenticeship programs.

Bedard is currently working with Technicon Industries in carpentry and Turner is attending Northwest Community College and working with Acadia Northwest Mechanical in sheet metal.

Career counselor Mike Jones presented the money to Nolan Bedard and Brenden Turner, both of whom graduated last year and are apprentices in a trades program.

The scholarship is from the Ministry of Education and is intended to assist with the purchase of tools, equipment or tuition.

To qualify for the award students must maintain a C+ average, successfully complete certain courses and graduate, and continue to work or train full time in a trade of their choice for five months past graduation or have 1,100 hours of reported to the Industry Training Authority.
