The parent group for accountants in this province has named three Surrey residents to sit on its board of governors.
Michael McAdam, Stanley Chang and Brian Friedrich will all serve on the board of governors for the Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia (CGA-BC) for 2012.
McAdam is president and CEO of Teldon Media Group Inc., a large privately held printer. He joined the Board in 2008.
Chang is the Acting Director, Credit Unions and Trusts in the Financial Institutions Commission, Ministry of Finance. He is also the sole Practitioner of Stanley Chang, CGA, and an accounting instructor at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Newly elected to the Board in 2011, he will serve on the Appeals Committee in 2012.
Friedrich is a Principal with Friedrich & Friedrich Corporation in Surrey. He joined the Board in 2008 and he has served as Chair of the Ethics Committee, Chair of the Member Readmissions Committee and member of the Discipline Committee. In 2012 he will serve as the Board Member appointee to the Audit Committee. In 2004 he received the Ambassador of Distinction Award and in 2006 received the J.M. Macbeth Award for outstanding service at the chapter level. He was also awarded the 2010 President’s Award for Education.
As the province’s largest professional accounting association, CGA-BC represents nearly 15,000 CGAs and students. Members work in industry, commerce, government and in public practice. The Association promotes the excellence of its members and advances the accounting profession through education, certification and the protection of the public interest.
CGA-BC leads the profession in the integration of ethics into its academic program, and all new graduates of the CGA program are required to complete a rules and standards course to complement an ongoing ethics requirement for members.
The Association also offers a wide range of employment services and programs to its members, students and the business community. These services include CGAjobs.org, a job postings website for finance and accounting professionals, and the Partners in Employment Program (PEP), which recognizes organizations that provide an effective working and training environment for CGAs and CGA students.
