YMCA hands out Women of Distinction Awards this week

Three Surrey residents won YWCA Metro Vancouver Women of Distinction awards Tuesday evening.

• Black and Blue Sari’s Kamal Dhillon – Community Building category.

“An inspirational speaker and writer, Kamal founded Black and Blue Sari to educate and empower communities to end domestic abuse.”

• Ocean Athletics’ Maureen de St. Croix – Health, Wellness and Athletics category.

“Maureen, founder and head coach of Ocean Athletics is a talented and dedicated athlete, coach and mentor.”

• Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts – Non-Profit and Public Service category.

“As mayor of the City of Surrey, Dianne has changed the lives of thousands of families by creating a healthier, safer society.”

Members of the public voted earlier this month, with each of the winners receiving $10,000 to donate to the YWCA program area of her choice.

Award recipients were announced at the Westin Bayshore Hotel.
