Legendary broadcaster Red Robinson and author Robin Brunet will be in South Surrey tomorrow (Nov.19) afternoon to sign copies of Robinson’s newly released biography.
Red Robinson: The Last Deejay (Harbour Publishing, $29.95) details Robinson’s life and career; from his early spinning days in high school to becoming a household name west of the Rockies.
Behind-the-scenes stories shared include Robinson’s close encounters with Vancouver’s visiting celebrities – from the time he spent an hour with Elvis Presley in the BC Lions dressing room talking cars, women, movies and opera to when he hung out backstage in Portland with Johnny Cash, to the time he nearly killed Roy Orbison and Bobby Goldsboro in a 1962 Grand Parisienne convertible while speeding to catch the Nanaimo ferry.
Robinson’s career highlights range from introducing The Beatles to the stage, to interviewing the likes of Buddy Holly and the Everly Brothers. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and can still be heard on the air every Sunday on CISL Radio.
“Red Robinson: The Last Deejay recalls the highs, hurdles and triumphs of a celebrated time in rock-and-roll history, presented by the man who dug into the guts, glory and glitz in a way that only a champion on the frontlines of music really can,” a news release announcing the book-signing states.
Montreal-born Brunet has worked throughout the country as a writer, editor and journalist for 32 years, and has written for numerous national business and commerce magazines. He currently lives in Langley.
The book-signing is to take place at Black Bond Books, 1-15562 24 Ave., starting at 1:30 p.m.
