Tourism Victoria helps shed light on West Shore attractions

Materials showcasing the West Shore can also be submitted

The West Shore is once again getting some fresh looks this week from visitors to one of the region’s most viewed tourism websites.

On Wednesday, Tourism Victoria began its second annual 10-day Community Spotlight focusing on highlights in and around the West Shore. It’s a program the regional body designed to give specific areas of the Capital Region added promotional power and allow those communities to take advantage of the expansive reach of Tourism Victoria’s digital and social media platforms.

Now through July 29, the West Shore will be featured on the front-page banner of the website – a page that saw roughly 28,000 views in May. It will also be the subject of three blogs highlighting experiences available in the area, receive social media support on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Google+ and Pinterest, and have images of the area circulating on each of those channel’s home pages.

“I think it gives the West Shore an opportunity to shout about all the great things that are on offer here,” said Westshore Chamber of Commerce executive director Julie Lawlor.

Last year’s Spotlight on the area attracted “not insignificant results” according to data gathered on visits and connections to the West Shore, she said.

The material used in the West Shore spots is compiled mainly through submissions to Tourism Victoria, Lawlor added. Anyone with photos, video or any information or content to help showcase the West Shore is asked to email the material to Michelle.Butterfield@TourismVictoria.com.
