Tourism Langley also presented a pair of awards at its recent annual general meeting.
The Lifetime Excellence Award went to Toots Tucker, who was honoured for her dedication to Langley and her continued devotion to volunteerism.
The award is presented to an individual or business who has made a significant contribution to tourism and the hospitality industry.
“We couldn’t think of a more passionate and dedicated community member to honour this year,” said Tourism Langley executive director Deborah Kulchiski. “She is an example of the reasons why visitors’ experience in Langley is a positive and memorable one and one of the reasons why they return to visit our communities.”
The other award, the Event of the Year, recognizes an organization or event which contributes to attracting and increasing the number of visitors to Langley as a destination.
This year’s recipient was the volunteers of the 2010 B.C. Summer Games.
“It is an honour to recognize those devoted group of volunteers for their support and enthusiasm. They deserve our gratitude for their unselfish contributions to this memorable event”, explained Councillor Bev Dornan, who presented the award to Michael Jackstein, President of the 2010 Township of Langley BC Summer Games Committee.
