If you have a zinger of a business idea but aren’t sure where to go with it, or if you’ve just started a new business in the past 18 months and could use a little guidance, you have a few more days to sign up for valuable help.
Registration for season three of Shuswap Launch-a-Preneur closes Saturday, Jan. 31.
Okanagan College students Sean Rossouw and Ellery Bone are members of Enactus, a student-run, world-wide organization that seeks to help communities by supporting entrepreneurial-based projects. The students are administering Launch-a-Preneur in conjunction with Community Futures Shuswap and the local Economic Development Society.
The program, which culminates in an evening in April similar to CBC TV’s Dragon’s Den – without the harsh critiques – offers workshops and one-on-one business mentors to test business models and prepare business plans.
“We’re really excited about the program, it’s a lot of fun…It’s an opportunity to see people take their ideas and see them come to fruition,” says Rossouw.
“These are skills that can’t be taught in a school environment, they’re hands on,” adds Bone. “I think it will make us better business managers in the future.”
