Put on your coach’s cap, buckle up for some cross-border shopping, discover why corporate art collections rival the best public galleries in the world or look for meaning in all the work places.
It’s all part of a high-energy, fast-paced public presentation on Oct. 26 by faculty at the University of Victoria’s Gustavson School of Business. Part of the school’s 25th birthday celebrations, the presentation runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Union Club and allows the school to shine the spotlight on the faculty. Among the talks will be:
Mark Colgate: The Power of Coaching Everyone – Executive coaching is in practice in most major organizations, but a more ubiquitous coaching approach is almost impossible to find. Colgate looks at the power of coaching everyone inside organizations and the performance gains that can come from a systems approach to coaching.
Jen Baggs: Shopping for Answers – Is cross-border shopping as much of a strain on Canadian businesses as we think? Does the exchange rate play a role in business growth and survival? You’ll be surprised about the impact these two media topics have – or don’t have – on your company’s bottom line.
Roy Suddaby: Why do Corporations Collect Art? – Corporate art collections have come to rival the best public galleries in the world, but they don’t logically contribute to the corporation’s core productive function and constitute a significant expenditure of capital. How do executives rationalize corporate art collections and what purpose do they serve?
A.R. Elangovan: Looking for Meaning in All the Work Places – Our work occupies a significant portion of our time, plays a key role in how we define ourselves. Our experiences at work have a major impact on our wellbeing and fulfillment. We all have different perspectives towards our work. Explore the factors that play a role in discovering one’s calling.
