Valley First Credit Union employees have reinforced their passionate commitment to making a real difference in the communities they serve by pledging more than $33,000 to local charities and community organizations in 2013.
“Our employees are well known for their incredible generosity,” said Valley First president Paulette Rennie.
“To find $33,000 for organizations across the region is simply astounding. I know these donations will go a long way to improving the lives of those less fortunate.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the Valley First team for displaying this tremendous level of support and commitment to the areas in which they live and work.”
Causes that will benefit most from Valley First’s generosity include Feed the Valley and United Way. Employees have committed to regular payroll deductions that will exceed $33,000 over the next 12 months on top of other regular giving and volunteer programs.
Roger Houle, Valley First’s head of business banking, is passionate about why he gives. “I love being able to support the community through my credit union. Our corporate giving aligns with my personal priorities, so it’s easy for me,” Houle said.
“Valley First gives me the ability to give to causes I want to give to. I give because I think it’s the right thing to do—it’s really that simple. I have trouble saying no when I know my contributions are going to such great causes.”
Employees from Valley First’s First West Credit Union partner Envision Financial have also committed to a significant contribution in their communities by earmarking close to $45,000 for charities across the Fraser Valley.
“The show of support is simply amazing,” said Seline Kutan, executive director of the First West Foundation.
“This isn’t a corporate donation; these funds come directly off employee’s pay cheques each month and will make a huge difference in our communities.”
