A pair of Vernon enterprises were among those honoured at the Vancouver Regional Construction Association’s 23rd annual Awards of Excellence ceremony.

Sparkling Hill Resort was the centre point of the night, with three companies, including long-time Vernon business M&K Ready Mix, earning gold awards for their contributions to the project.

M&K picked up its award in the Manufacturer & Supplier category, in recognition of its service in supplying concrete to the resort near Predator Ridge between 2008-10.

M&K’s Mitch and Bonnie Mitchell attended the recent banquet at the Vancouver Convention Centre to receive the recognition.

The Vernon company was nominated by Richmond-based contractor PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc., who also worked on the Sparkling Hill project and collected the gold award for General Contractor over $40 Million at the awards gala.

The VRCA’s President’s Trade Award went to Vancouver’s CN Architectural Millwork and Construction Inc. for its contribution to Sparkling Hill.

Awards went to 10 winners for their use of special techniques and procedures, new materials and additional artistic or innovative features on their projects. The total value of projects considered in the competition represents $1.2 billion of construction throughout B.C.

“The gold award winners are truly leaders in the industry and great examples of world class projects around the province built by VRCA members,” said Keith Sashaw, VRCA president. “We are very proud to celebrate the exceptional growth of our industry over the last 23 years.”
