His work with community water supply has earned Vernon engineer Mike Nolan provincial recognition.

Nolan was presented with the D.C. Lambert Professional Service Award at the recent Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. President’s Awards night.

To be considered for the award, a candidate has to have made a substantial contribution of professional service, through leadership and dedication, to APEGBC or to a provincial, national or international technical association or learned society.

Nolan has presented to various groups on water issues facing local governments, and how First Nations can achieve community capital improvement goals through partnerships.

“With his expertise in surface water and fisheries enhancement, Nolan is a respected advocate for safe drinking water and protection of the environment,” states a release.

He previously served on the only university-based think tank initiative in North America dedicated to climate change adaptation, through the Simon Fraser University Adaptation to Climate Change Team’s Professional Advisory Committee, and has been an active member of advisory boards for the Okanagan College water quality technology program and the B.C. Sustainable Infrastructure Society.

Nolan’s extensive volunteer service and leadership with both the B.C. Water and Waste Association and the American Water Works Association earned him their highest awards.

Equally committed to his local community, Nolan served as a past director of O’Keefe Ranch.

Since the inception of the association’s awards program in 1965, more than 275 individuals have received APEGBC’s top honours from their peers.
