Vernon Wellness Centre celebrates 10 years, donates to hospital

Arise Wellness will celebrate its 10-year anniversary by donating a portion of all proceeds on Thursday, Jan. 24 to Vernon Jubilee Hospital’s Women and Children’s Health Services.

When the clinic first opened its doors in January 2009, it was a two-person operation, with Dr. Elliot Lysyk at the chiropractic table and his partner, Alana, behind the front desk. Ten years later, Arise Wellness has evolved into one of North Okanagan’s largest multi-disciplinary health centres, with a team of 20 that includes four chiropractic doctors, six registered massage therapists, physiotherapy, acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, holistic nutrition, reflexology, reiki, life-coaching, weight-loss support and a studio offering various classes.

“A lot has happened over the past 10 years,” said Lysyk. “I’m extremely proud of the team we’ve assembled — some of the most talented practitioners in their fields, all working together on the patient’s behalf.”

Arise Wellness has received several community accolades over the years, such as Best Chiropractic Clinic for several years running in Okanagan Life Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards. The team was also a finalist for the 2016 Chamber of Commerce Customer Service Excellence Award, and Lysyk was recently named one of Vernon’s Top 20 under 40 for his entrepreneurial vision.

Lysyk attributes that vision to his upbringing on an Alberta farm where he learned the value of hard work and developed a passion for health as a result of many sports and farm-related injuries.

“Since childhood, I have been helped tremendously by chiropractic, massage and other alternative therapies,” said Lysyk. “Although chiropractic is my passion, I feel that different modalities work for different people and that multiple approaches are often required for a thorough treatment plan.”

Patients typically visit Arise Wellness for relief from back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines, sciatica, digestive problems, as well as for emotional concerns like stress and anxiety. Lysyk’s vision was to create a wellness community where patients can not only receive the treatment they need, but also feel genuinely cared for.

“All of our staff and practitioners are great at getting to know each patient, exchanging life stories and connecting,” he said. “A huge part of healing is feeling listened to and cared for.”

Lysyk is also passionate about providing family-friendly care for families and children, as he believes that true health stems from prevention and establishing the right habits as early as childhood.

“We love having families in here,” Lysyk said. “Kids benefit greatly from regular tune-up adjustments, so that their little bodies can express themselves optimally while they develop and grow.”

In line with their mission to support Vernon families, the Arise Team has chosen to donate a portion of all proceeds on Jan. 24 to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital’s Women and Children program in order to thank the Vernon community for their support over the years.

As for the next 10 years, Lysyk plans to continue helping thousands more patients by offering drug-and-surgery-free healthcare options to Vernon and area.

“My ongoing vision is to provide a healing hub full of top-notch practitioners gathered together under the same roof, a place where patients can thrive and stay well, using drugs and surgeries as last options only,” he said.

He encourages everyone to start the New Year with health in mind.

“There’s a really good feeling that comes with seeing so many patients thrive with the right guidance,” he said. “Let’s take action and all commit to making 2019 our healthiest, happiest year yet.”
