Driving along Old Hope-Princeton Way over the past several months, it’s clear there is plenty of new development happening in the town of Hope.
There is the nearly-completed affordable housing complex on Ryder Street, just off the main stretch and overlooking Hope. There’s a construction site behind the Starbucks, one across the street from the RCMP, and even an area cleared just prior to the on-ramp for the highway.
McDonald’s, Tim Horton’s and other businesses along the route have also recently renovated their businesses, investing further into the area.
And most recently, a supportive housing project could be built beside the House of Hope shelter.
To clear up what’s going where, The Standard checked in with the District of Hope staff to confirm the projects underway. They responded with a list of seven major projects underway in Hope.
They include three active construction sites on Old Hope-Princeton Way, one under site preparation, two sites in active construction along Flood Hope Road, and the long-awaited travel centre site under construction at 19700 Klassen Road.
The list of active developments on file with the District include a convenience store and gas station at 715 Old Hope-Princeton Way, intended to be a 7-11. A Dollarama is intended to go into the retail space being developed at 590 Old Hope-Princeton Way.
The largest site under construction is the Mamale’awt Qweesome Housing Society development at 755 Old Hope-Princeton Way. That project is named The Riverstone, and will eventually have 37 apartment units and eight townhouse units. It’s not expected to be ready until February 2021.
At the furthest end of the stretch, a site is being prepared for a future hotel and conference centre. That lot butts up against the highway, right at the beginning of the off-ramp to head north or east.
The timelines for the commercial projects are not available, but all sites have been busy with activity recently.
Over on Flood Hope Road, there are also two large commercial projects taking shape. One is a pre-case concrete panel manufacturing facility at 63170 Flood Hope Road. The other is a storage facility that will be able to manage indoor RV and boat storage, at 62890 Flood Hope Road.
Finally, the truck stop, Ricky’s and convenience store at 19700 Klassen Road, known as the Silver Creek Travel Centre, continues to be listed as an active construction site and has been busy this week with workers on site. At the site on Klassen Road on Thursday, the water tank for a new gas station was lowered into the ground by work crews (see video above). The tank is for fire protection at the new station.
