Santa Claus wants children in Mission and across the globe to know that he will still be coming to town for Christmas.
On Tuesday, Sept. 29, Santa was at Mission’s Junction Shopping Centre to videotape several special messages to reassure kids that Christmas will go on, despite the current social-distancing restrictions.
Beginning next week, a message from Santa will appear on the Junction’s website (thejunctionmission.com) and a new message will be posted every two weeks, leading up to the big day.
“We were talking to Santa and we heard from him that children were worried, all around the world, that Christmas wasn’t going to happen this year and that Santa wasn’t going to come to their homes,” explained Kelly Millin, who does the marketing for the Junction.
She said they decided to create these videos to help curb those fears.
There will be seven videos in total featuring different scenarios including how Santa is eating healthy, taking care of the reindeer and has the elves wearing masks, as well as showing him checking his naughty and nice list and viewing a globe to plan his trip.
The Junction is also planning to have Santa at the shopping centre again this year, although it may look a little different
According to Millin photos with Santa will still be available, but kids won’t be able to sit on his knee.
She said the plan is to create a Santa’s workshop setting with plenty for kids to look at. Santa will stand a safe distance away for the photos.
Parents will have to book visits in advance to prevent over-crowding.
Millin said they are also planning on having some free features as well with E-postcards and a QR code that allows people to send a photo in and have it returned with a festive frame around it.
More details will become available closer to the date.
