Chilliwack residents might have to travel to Abbotsford for a while longer to pick up packages shipped by Purolator.
As of last Tuesday, the Chilliwack Visitor Centre on Luckakuck Way ceased to be the Chilliwack agent for Purolator Courier.
“It’s going to be a bit of a transition,” said Brian Coombes, executive director of Tourism Chilliwack.
The nearest ‘shipping-only’ location for Purolator packages is now the Staples Business Depot at 101-7491 Vedder Road.
Tourism Chilliwack board and staff made the business decision in the face of declining revenues over a number of years, Coombes said.
As of Tuesday, Feb. 1, they stopped having Purolator packages coming and going through the building.
“At this point they are working to establish an new ‘hold for pickup’ location in Chilliwack,” Coombes said.
Until then, customers have to drive to the Abbotsford Purolator office at 2140 Sumas Way in the Abbotsford Village Shopping Centre. To reach Purolator Customer Service call 1-888-744-7123.
Tourism Chilliwack first became a Purolator agent in the summer of 2007, with the express intent of driving more traffic to the Visitors’ Centre, as well as creating a new revenue stream, he said.
“But the revenue decreased every year since the first year, and we had to make a decision. The time commitment didn’t justify the revenue anymore.”
Tourism Chilliwack will be redoubling its entrepreneurial efforts in the coming months.
“We’ll focus on building our flag shop business, the visitors and on our destination marketing programs.”
