Weaver, Clark make their pitches on Site C dam

Green Party MLAs meet with opposing aboriginal communities

B.C. Green Party leader Andrew Weaver led his two new MLAs on their first visit to the Site C dam project this week, with Premier Christy Clark following with her own visit to push for the project to continue.

Weaver supported the third dam on the Peace River when it was announced in 2009, but now opposes it and wants it stopped after two years and $2 billion in construction costs already expended.

In her visit, Clark met with local B.C. Liberal MLAs and emphasized the more than 2,000 people working on the site.

Weaver met with the West Moberly and Prophet River First Nations, who oppose the project, but not with the half dozen other aboriginal groups who are participating in it. He has called a news conference at the B.C. legislature for today to talk about his findings.
