There’s so much happening in Langley’s business community, that there’s never enough space, and seldom enough time to cover all the cool happenings.
But this week, let me start by mentioning the Georgies.
This is an awards event, kind of the Oscars in the home building world, that is coming up in mid-March. The list of finalists was just recently released, and – no surprise given the volume of residential construction going on in Langley – there are a few local names on the shortlist. One, for instance, is Homestar Building Corp.’s for their work on a custom family home in North Langley that made the $1.5-$3-million category.
Also making the shortlist was CastleHill Homes, which made it into the finals for the best townhouse development for the Sakura Morgan Heights project. This project is in association with Langley’s own Starline Windows and Dick’s Lumber.

S+L opens
I’m also excited to share news of a new restaurant opening this weekend in Willoughby.
S+L Kitchen and Bar is opening tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 22) on 200th Street, near 84th Avenue.
Langley’s own Ryan Moreno – the guy who brought us Townhall Public House – is kicking off a new chain of restaurants specializing in steak and lobster; hence the name S+L. Exciting stuff!
Late breaking news from Aldergrove
Annette Willson, of Powerhouse Gym in Aldergrove, just reached out to us with some cool news.
The company, which is celebrating its first anniversary this weekend, is holding an open house on Saturday, Jan. 23 that includes a charity angle.
Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., the gym – at 400-26310 Fraser Hwy. – will be holding a member appreciation event and open house, and during this period they’ll be collecting donations for the food bank.
“New People can train for the cost of supporting the local food bank,” Willson said. “We will have various supplement companies here, as well as holding a lifting challenge.”
Even in their first year of operation, Willson said they’ve grown and expanded. A tanning business has been added, and they’ve expanded their programs and training areas, and added more equipment.
“Come by and take a look, and see what is happening in our community,” Wilson said, extending an invitation to any people interested.
