Windmill Meats first opened in 1993 in the industrial park and then opened a storefront downtown Salmon Arm while keeping most of its production at the original location.
Now they have opened at their new location in Westgate Public Market (the former Canadian Tire building).
“The storefront is nice, big, and wide open. Customers will have more room to shop,” says manager Rebecca Dolzanski. “And it’s nice to have other businesses around – we’re getting new customers. There’s lots of parking and we’re in a good location.”
They have all of their regular cuts of sausages and they’ve brought in new grocery items.
“We have lots of Christmas stock in now, chocolate letters, our Kruidnootjes cookies from Holland and Taai-Taai cookies.”
They have a large selection of foods from Holland as well as German and Polish treats as well as Christmas ornaments and decorations.
“There’s quite a large European customer base and you learn about different cultures as you work here,” says Rebecca.
They have a variety of hams for Christmas: bone-in, easy carve hams (no bone), and Swedish hams. Their variety of sausages (farmer, bratwurst, hot Italian) are popular for entertaining. Windmill Meats staff do gift baskets and deli trays.
They are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Contact them through their Facebook page (Windmill Meats) or phone 250-832-4748.

Country Treasure
James and Anne Honeyman have just opened a store at Westgate Public Market. The name, Country Treasure, encapsulates what you see when you walk in.
“My husband likes making things and my brother-in-law allowed us to take down a barn off his farm. The farm was first established in 1908, Rivermead Ranch. The frames are made from that wood.”
They also have some artwork by local artists framed with the wood frames.
There are plant holders and end tables made with this century-old wood. There are various sizes of frames but James can also do custom frames.
A few of the family members contribute to the business. There are handmade cards, necklaces, mugs with messages, necklaces, and toques.
They also have flowers: bouquets, fresh arrangements and, of course, poinsettias for the Christmas season.
Anne says they will be getting in more giftware all in keeping with their country theme.
To contact them, visit their Facebook page, Country Treasure, or phone 250-260-0991 or 250-540-9764.
They are open Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Salmon Arm Physiotherapy opens its doors
“It’s a big surreal,” says Daniel von Hollan referring to the opening of his new business, Salmon Arm Physiotherapy.
Daniel grew up in Kelowna but spent a lot of time in Salmon Arm because he has extended family here. He didn’t have plans to become a physiotherapist but a family incident inspired him.
“It wasn’t on my radar but my grandmother had a stroke when I was in Grade 12. Watching her go through her rehab process was quite eye-opening. From going to having no use (of one side) to pretty much pre-injury I thought that was amazing. I looked into it after that.”
Daniel got his bachelor of science at UBC in Vancouver in 2010 and his Masters of Physiotherapy five years later at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.
“It was adventure and the education was tops. They’ve got a world-renowned program. They drive a lot of the research in physiotherapy and they’re on the forefront in some areas and that gets put right in the curriculum.”
Daniel says physiotherapists like helping people with their pain-related problems, and he takes a three-fold approach.
“We like to take away pain with our hands when we can but I also really try to equip people through education and exercise to manage pain on their own and to prevent further injuries.”
He can help people who have neck pain and headaches, back pain, sports injuries (rehab and sport screening), pre- and post-surgery rehab, joint pain/arthritis, workplace injuries and graded return to work programs, men’s health issues, overuse injuries and postural strain. Besides manual therapy techniques, Daniel uses integrated clinical pilates for rehab and exercise prescription.
He also does home visits for those unable to attend the clinic.
When he isn’t working, Daniel likes to be outdoors, skiing, hiking, biking, camping, being out in the garden or just reading a book.
Daniel’s practice is in the Kula Wellness Centre, 185 Hudson Ave. NE. He offers competitive pricing and same-day appointments. His hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 1 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
