The Williams Lake and District Credit Union (WL&DCU) has announced it is accepting applications from local organizations and community groups for projects and initiatives geared to helping local communities.
WL&DCU 100 Mile House branch financial services representative Shannon Nantel says the first grants were given in 2008 and now they distribute two cheques a year.
Locally owned and operated, she notes WL&DCU is proud of its history of supporting the communities it serves and is excited about the potential positive impact this funding may have on local communities.
“A few of the local grant recipients from last year were Lake of the Trees Bible Camp, Watch Lake and District Women’s Institute and the Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre.”
WL&DCU has a committee that consists of two staff members from each of the 100 Mile, Williams Lake and Bella Coola branches, says Nantel.
“We accept proposals from all of those communities and the surrounding area.”
Total funding for this initiative is $50,000, and an initial $25,000 will be awarded in the spring with the remainder awarded in the fall. The maximum per organization is $5,000.
“Organizations can apply every session unless they receive a grant, then they miss one session and can re-apply for the next session. So if they receive a grant in this spring, they cannot re-apply until the following spring.”

Preference will be given to organizations that are members of WL&DCU, Nantel notes. The application deadline is March 31.
