During the year, the staff of the local Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) maintains a book table.

The table is laden with books donated by residents, and all the books are available to purchase by donation.

Part of the money raised from the book fund was, in turn, donated to the 100 Mile House & District Women’s Centre Society (WCS).

“This $800 will go a long way to help us with the Christmas hampers for our clients,” says WCS program manager Charlotte Stockford. “It’s amazing; from now on I’ll be bringing my books here.”

There is a lot of foot traffic in the bank, RBC manager Scott Saito says, adding people are always dropping off or buying books.

On average, the RBC staff collects about $3,000 and distributes the money to various local organizations. Saito notes this is a local initiative.
