Be it strokes of watercolours, oils, or acrylics, pretty stones strung together into jewellery, or frames of captured light, you’ll be able to find it at the 10th annual Support Living Artists art show.
“There will be paintings, photos, jewellery, pine-needle basketry, paper and stationary crafts,” explained Sharon Blythe, founder of Artists at Work (AW), the group responsible for organizing the show each year. Artwork prices will be anywhere from $4 to $400, so bring cash and be prepared to be wowed, added Blythe with a smile.
Started in 2007, Artists at Work comprises artistic hobbyists from Hope, Agassiz, and Harrison Hot Springs who gather weekly at the local Grace Baptist Church to work in a collaborative environment.
“The creativity that can come out of (somebody’s) brain is astounding,” said Blythe. “I try to encourage everyone with any artistic bent to just do (it). I really like to promote the arts.”
Following that, Blythe says AW began their Support Living Artists show in 2009 to promote local artists.
“Hope seems to encourage artistic people. Not just with painting, but with all other (types of art from) jewellery to carving,” Blythe said. “There’s just something about Hope that makes people want to be artsy. There are incredible artists in town who never show their art (because they do it for the love of art, not for recognition).”
That said, Blythe says Artists at Work currently has about 16 members, many of which who are up for both recognition and the showing their work at the show because its full name says it all: Support Living Artists—The dead ones don’t need it.
The show takes place at 285 Wallace Street (next to H & R Block), and runs from Friday, June 28, until Monday, July 1.
