A Cappella Plus has chosen to spice things up for their last concert in Parksville with director Rosemary Lindsay.
Instead of a traditional risers-and-folders show, the 16-voice adult community chamber choir will bring their cabaret-style concert to town.
“It’s not only a feast for the ears, but also for the palate,” said Lindsay. “It promises to be a good event.”
For this event, the audience will be seated at small round tables where they can enjoy a beverage from the cash bar service during the show. There will also be a slightly extended intermission featuring an appetizer buffet, which is included in the price of a ticket.
“It’s more social,” said Lindsay, who noted the group started doing cabaret-style concerts in 2013. “It seems to be popular.”
Lindsay also said the fresh vibe of the upcoming concert is a good way to mark the turning point that is her departure from the choir. After a dozen years as A Cappella Plus’ choral director, Lindsay said she will now turn her focus onto her current position as principle voice teacher at VIU and her return to the Village Voices choir after a year of leave.
“My work load is so much more and I’m realizing I’m not super woman,” she said.
This concert with A Cappella Plus in Parksville is the second in a series of three (the first taking place in Nanaimo the day before). Titled A Choral Banquet: Twelve years of Musical Fare, the series features highlights from the choir’s past 12 years as chosen by the group’s current singers.
According to a news release from the choir, the selection includes a choral suite from Disney’s Frozen, music from Africa and India, the Beatles classic Blackbird, Pete Seeger’s beautiful Turn, Turn, Turn, Mood Indigo, an adaptation of The William Tell Overture, Stevie Wonder’s Sir Duke and a collection of Canadian and Celtic music.
“There’ll be something for everyone,” said Lindsay.
For the shows, the choir will be accompanied by Patricia Plumley.
A Cappella Plus will sing in Parksville this Sunday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Beach Club Resort.
Tickets to Sunday’s show are $20 and are available in advance only online at the choir’s website (acappellaplus.ca) and at Mulberry Bush Bookstores in both Parksville and Qualicum Beach.
If you can’t make it to this weekend’s performance, the group will also perform the same set list at the Deep Bay Marine Field Station on April 19 as part of the Brant Wildlife Festival celebrations and the venues’s Music by the Bay concert series. Tickets to this event are $40, which includes a gourmet buffet lunch. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., with lunch starting at 1 p.m.
