A Cappella Plus is bringing Nanaimo music lovers an intimate concert experience straight from its heart.
The 17 member choir hosts All Ye Who Musik Love: Songs from the Heart is Saturday (Nov. 21), 2-4 p.m. in the Port Theatre lobby.
The concert is hosted as a salon style event. Attendees are encouraged to get up and get refreshments and stretch their legs during the performance.
“It’s part party, part concert,” said Patricia Plumley, the choir’s artistic director. “It’s time we bring music back into that intimate setting.”
She said the choir is trying to bring the feeling of joy to people and add a little fun to the event.
During the intermission, attendees can mingle with the choir singers and get refreshments.
Plumley joined A Cappella Plus as new artistic director this fall. She debuted in her new role with the choir during the Nanaimo Sings Festival Oct. 16-18.
This event’s theme is music as a catalyst for love.
“It moves through everything from Bach to Stevie Wonder,” said Plumley.
People can hear favourites such as Amazing Grace and Danny Boy or more classical pieces such as Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine or Finzi’s My Spirit Sang All Day. Plumley said the music selections run the whole gamut from renaissance music to hits from today.
To familiarize herself with the choir, she worked during the summer to get to know the individual voices of the singers and how they contribute to the group component.
“When you are in a small ensemble, the beauty and quality of the instrument gets to be used in a unique way,” said Plumley.
Tickets are $23 and are available by calling 250-754-8550 or going to www.porttheatre.com.
