A blend of Christmas magic and Celtic choral traditions will be taking place when the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir comes to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Dec. 15.
From timeless carols and soaring spirituals to fun Christmas classics and Broadway show tunes, they will capture everything you have ever loved about the season and wrap it all up in inspirational Celtic choral style.
“We’re very much looking forward to our return to Chilliwack for our upcoming Christmas concert,” said chorus member Gerry Alwell. “The choir fondly remembers our last visit there in 2017 and the warm welcome we received. Our Christmas Traditions from Around the World concert series will culminate on a high note with what is sure to be a fitting finale in Chilliwack.”
The Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir came to life more than 35 years ago, when three men of Vancouver’s Welsh Society decided to form a male choir to celebrate their shared musical heritage. Since then, what began as an idea has transformed into a luxuriously-voiced choir of more than 100 members that specializes in summoning the magic and majesty of Welsh music, plus other well-known hymns and opera choruses.
The Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir’s repertoire defines diversity, bringing together well-loved and timeless hymns with modern Canadiana and ballads, and expresses these eclectic musical styles through the powerful medium of resplendent and resonant choral voice.
“The concert will feature Christmas songs from the Caribbean to Catalonia, and is sure to add to your enjoyment of the entire Christmas season. Our selection will include some old favourites as well as a varied selection of not so familiar but beautiful songs sung in four part harmonies. All with a bit of fun thrown in to spread the Christmas joy,” Alwell said.
Christmas with the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 for adults, $37 for seniors and $35 for youth and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
