Local band //AMISTAD// hopes the video for their new single, HUMAN‚ helps get their music to a wider audience.
“Getting the chance to make a great video was already winning for us,” said keyboardist Craig Matterson. “This was the biggest video production we have ever done and it was such a fun experience.”
The video cast five young local boys to play the band as kids on their way to a concert at their grade school. The band recreates some of their earliest live shows in the video while highlighting their small town.
“The song is such a great tune, it was easy being creative while shooting the scenes around Vernon,” said director of photography Jeff Bassett. “The members of the band were great to work with as they were wanting to get just the right look for the video.”
Producer Keli Westgate wasn’t surprised by the community’s support.
“The ‘local power’ that the crew experienced was so supportive, fun, helpful and stress-free,” she said. “The final video turned out to be something we can all be proud of.
“I know they are on the cusp of big success as the songs on the new EP are all so solid, and HUMAN will be very popular, I am certain.”
The video was recently entered in the STORYHIVE Small Town Music Video contest, one of 17 entered. All who entered received a $10,000 grant to make their videos. With distribution on Telus Optik TV On demand, all videos will enter the next phase of community voting, with the top award a $10,000 scholarship to the Banff Centre. The winner will be announced today.
Since the release of their new EP, Talk Peace To A Wolf, the band has put on a series of impressive live shows and now can’t wait to get to Vancouver, where they will play the Anza Club Aug. 3.
“Our favourite thing to do is play live, and one of our touring goals for 2016 was to hit Vancouver during the summer‚“ said lead singer Aidan Andrews, “so to now have the chance to show that scene how we do things…it’s a really good feeling.
“We’re going to bring our best show yet on August 3, and I promise you will not be disappointed.”
If you can’t make it to Vancouver next month, check out the band’s website for all of their other live shows this summer, at amistadband.com, where you can also check out the video for HUMAN.
